Short Overview

This is a qualification for those engaged in driving operation job roles within the transport and logistics industry.

It involves a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, with some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures and within known time constraints.

Successful achievement of the licensing units within the qualification must align with licensing and regulatory requirements applicable to driving and state or territory regulatory requirements. Successful completion will require achieving competency in units that relate to work defined as aligned at Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 3.

Entry requirements

This certificate does not have any entry requirements, however, Courtesy Driving School will ask you to complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure you have the required level LLN to complete the certificate.

For applicants who wish to access WorkReady funding, you will be required to complete the Upfront Assessment of Needs (UAN) prior to being accepted into the course.

Courtesy can help you access support post LLN testing if required.

This course has been developed with the student having an existing heavy vehicle licence. If a licensing unit is required the cost of the certificate will increase. Please speak to the administration staff at Courtesy Driving School regarding your requirements.

  • You must be employed in the industry and remain employed throughout the course;
  • You must be at least 18 years of age;
  • You must be physically fit and in good general health as the course is physically demanding;
  • You must complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test prior to being enrolled in the course. If you require extra learning support, we can help you access this service;
  • You must have your own transport vehicle.

If you are eligible for WorkReady funding you will be required to pay a co contribution fee.

Delivery

Off Job delivery:

The course is delivered using a flexible delivery approach and incorporates the following delivery modes:

  • Theory face to face sessions
  • Self-directed learning including projects
  • Group activities including discussions
  • Research and workbook activities
  • Demonstrations and practical skill tasks
  • In vehicle training and assessment
  • Formative and summative assessments
  • Completing a logbook of activities which are verified by a nominated workplace supervisor
  • Some units of competency will be delivered as a cluster as appropriate to the job tasks, while others may be delivered as a standalone unit. Please refer to the delivery schedule relevant to your course dates.
  • Classroom units are delivered at our Wingfield Training Facility, 57 Wingfield Road, WINGFIELD

Courses are structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of students.

On job delivery:

On job delivery consists of theory components delivered in a classroom environment with practical practice and assessment taking place in the operational workplace.

The expected duration of Certificate III in Driving Operations will be between six (6) to 12 months.

Recognition of prior learning

Recognition of prior learning is a form of assessment that provides the opportunity for you to have you skills knowledge and experience values and count towards a formal qualification.
You may have gained these skills or knowledge through training, work experience or general experiences such as committee memberships or volunteer work. There is a charge for RPL; however the process will save you valuable time and money.
Before you enrol in a course you may speak to your trainer to see if this process will be of value to you. RPL application forms are available from trainers.
For the Licence to Drive Units, persons who hold a current licence of the relevant class will receive automatic RPL for the relevant unit.
